Average Draft Position (ADP)
-The mean (average) position that a player is being drafted leading up to a season
Best Player Available (BPA)
-Draft strategy in which an owner disregards positions and chooses the top player remaining on their draft board
Breakout
-Player that greatly exceeds expectations; normally drafted in the middle-to-late rounds, but performs as an early round draft pick
Bust
-Player that greatly underperforms and fails to meet the expectations of his ADP; the players are normally drafted in the middle-to-early portion of fantasy drafts
Defense / Special Teams (DST)
-Fantasy football position that combines a team’s defense and special teams
Draftmaster
-Draft-only fantasy league that plays out, but owners have no control after the draft. Often referred to as “best-ball” leagues because the highest scoring players on the roster are chosen as starters for each week
Flex
-Fantasy football position in which either a running back, wide receiver or tight end may be used
Flier
-Late round draft pick with a slight chance to breakout; their roster spot is not secure (may be dropped early on) and they are sometimes referred to as lottery tickets
Handcuff
-Backup player (most often a running back) that is drafted as insurance in case the starting running back is injured
Individual Defensive Player (IDP)
-Type of fantasy league in which individual defensive players are used as opposed to grouping a team’s defense together in standard leagues; players earn fantasy points through personal statistics such as tackles, sacks and interceptions rather than team totals such as total points and total yards allowed
Offensive Player (OP)
-Fantasy football position in which either a quarterback, running back, wide receiver or tight end may be used
Point-Per-Reception (PPR)
-Type of scoring system in which players receive one fantasy point per every reception; there are common variations of this system that include .5 points-per-reception and even 1.5 points-per-reception for tight ends
Running-back-by-committee (RBBC)
-Situation in which a team does not have a featured back; instead multiple running backs serve different roles in the offense
Sleeper
-Late round selection that possesses potential to become a breakout player
Spot-Starter
-Player that best serves as a fill-in starter for Bye Weeks or in the place of injured starters
Stream
-Tactic of using a rotation of players to fill a particular starting position rather than having a week-to-week starter
Stud
-An elite option at a particular position that can normally be played regardless of matchup
Target
-Pass directed to a specific receiver
-Player that you would like to have on your fantasy football team
Value Based Drafting (VBD)
