3rd Year Wide Receivers

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the notion of 3rd Year Wide Receivers, there is a common idea that many receivers break out in their third year. Evidence supporting this claim hasn’t exactly been overwhelming. Many players, such as AJ Green and Julio Jones, break out earlier. Many more players will not break out at all. Nevertheless, the third year is still a significant year for all players. To some degree it can be viewed as a do-or-die campaign. If they haven’t found success by the end of their third season, then their chances of ever doing so are greatly diminished. Here’s my fantasy football spin on the wide receivers who already have two seasons to adjust to the NFL and are ready to enter the prime of their careers:

Jerrel Jernigan should be placed underneath “Basically Worthless”. He’s buried too far down on the depth chart to even be considered as a waiver wire pick-up. With guys like Nicks, Cruz, Randle, Hixon, and Barden in front of him, he’ll be lucky to get 10 receptions next season and he only sees the field on special teams.

You think “If the planets aligned” is too much promise? haha. I reserved the basement category for players lacking NFL talent. Hixon is also a UFA who may look for bigger opportunity.
